“Bismillah…

I was born into a Hindu family as the only son to carry on an ancestral lineage. My parents had experienced the horrors of partition in 1947 where Muslims and Hindus subjected each other to mass murder, rape, robbery and other horrendous acts of violence. I was raised as a Hindu and taught that Muslims were corrupt and evil…and at one point I was training to become a Hindu priest… and then my life changed… Without knowing I began taking the straight path to submission…

In the beginning of my journey in Islam, I was confused, experiencing a personal life crisis where I experienced a traumatic loss in my life, I was at odds with my family, my ancestry and the deeply rooted religious traditions of my parents. I was also facing a spiritual crisis, uncertain about the path to The Divine…

When I use to get overwhelmed, and while trauma and pain was deep in my heart, even in my uncertainty I would run to the Masjid and just cry my eyes out to The One who created me… Allah…

I didn’t have any friends, and I was alone. One cold autumn night I came to the Masjid looking for companionship and comfort… Initially I didn’t find anyone and while speaking to a Masjid elder, when I least expected it, I came across two brothers last minute who gave me the friendly comfort of a listening ear and an empathic heart… They were from Light of Mercy… a name very fitting for its cause…

Light of Mercy, has offered me something that not a whole lot of people or services can offer… They offer that spiritual and emotional crisis support. They give you that non-judgemental, friendly ear, that friendly smile that says I’m here for you. They give you this especially in your most darkest times of life while you try to find your way back to God…

In the end, one’s own personal journey back to The Divine can be quite tumultuous and there are extremely difficult in-roads that you have no choice but to tread it completely alone with your reliance on Allah… that is after all what faith is…

Light of Mercy to me are those individuals who you meet on the way, who will not dictate to you how your journey in Islam should be. Rather they are friendly hearts who will make sure you have everything you need in order to embark on your journey to Allah. Light of Mercy are the ones who when things get difficult in that journey you can lean on for support, laugh with or even cry with…

They are the means which Allah uses to manifest His mercy to… especially for those who are trying to find their way back home…”
