Welcome to Light of Mercy
If you are a seeker on a spiritual journey, or a beginner on the path, we hope Allah (Glorified is He) guides you and makes your wayfaring a blessing. Light of Mercy is an organization for all, Muslims and curious non-Muslims, regardless of gender, age or ethnicity.
All of us at Light of Mercy are on a spiritual path. Our hope Insha’Allah is to connect people from all walks of life in this circle of sharing, learning sacred knowledge, and drawing closer to Allah (Glorified is He) by following the sacred footsteps of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings upon him).
You may have specific questions about Islam, or may want to join us for some healthy socializing. Feel free to talk about the things that concern you and your relationship with Allah. At Light of Mercy you can address your concerns and feel comfortable that the brothers and sisters here are born and raised in Western culture and are empathetic to the issues that you may be experiencing.
At Light of Mercy, we are concerned for the present and the future of yours and our spiritual travelling to Allah (Glorified is He). We understand that the journey takes time and is gradual. We ask Almighty Allah to facilitate and nurture our spiritual growth, and success is from Allah alone.
How You Can Help
The Muslim community is not aware of the trials and challenges that New Muslims are facing. It is our responsibility to help them in their new found faith including letting others know how they can help. The Muslim community should not be an obstacle in anyone seeking to draw nearer to Allah.
Showing compassion to our new Muslim brothers and sisters proves as a great assistance to them and is a quality that our Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) encouraged us to have.‘The parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.’-Sahih Muslim
If you are aware of some New Muslims and an Islamic event is coming up, invite them to fo with you. Often times converts are not aware of Muslim social events or are too shy to attend on their own.
Often New Muslims have a lot of issues that they are trying to deal and cope with. Being patient with them while providing a means of encouragement and spiritual upliftment is greatly appreciated from them.
Converts come from various backgrounds, and have sometimes been involved in crime or wear un- Islamic attire. Know that Allah guided them for a purpose He knows and thus we shouldn’t be quick to judge or disrespect them. On the contrary we should teach them gradually using wisdom and a smile
Many Converts after embracing Islam have few or no friends. Inviting them for a bite to eat will enable them to enjoy healthy companionship while noting the etiquette of eating according to Islam.
Converts are full of questions that need to be addressed in order to help them draw nearer to Allah. Often times the questions are not easy and we would be doing them a great service by directing their questions to people of knowledge. Too many times, converts have received incorrect info regarding Islam from the Muslim community itself. This was due to people answering questions when they lacked the requisite knowledge.
We are a non-profit, non-political organization that provides support for new, and newly-practicing, Muslims.
Light of Mercy is comprised of both born and converted Muslims that, being raised in the West, are able to provide a unique insight into the problems and solutions facing new and young Muslims today.
We provide access to rich traditional knowledge that acts as a bridge and enables new Muslims to confidently interact with the community. We also work to raise awareness on the other side of the bridge, within the community, about their responsibility to support the inward and outward needs of new Muslims.
Our vision is to channel the passion and energy of the seeker into productive action so that they can become representatives of the Prophet (saw) and a new Light of Mercy.
Light of Mercy has members that have experienced the transition of becoming Muslim and, as such, are well positioned to advise on what is important in this process.
We aim to provide the following:
- classes including Arabic, jurisprudence, and theology to new Muslims
- a place where non-Muslims can receive material on Islam
- a place where new Muslims can congregate and feel comfortable
- a bridge for new converts into the Muslim community to connect them to traditional knowledge and those that inherited it
We currently operate out of various masajid (mosques) and while this is beneficial in many ways, we would be better able to establish our programs in a separate and permanent facility. We are working on this and have growing support for Light of Mercy and all of our programs, so that we hope to open a centre in the months coming, insha’Allah (God-willing).
